The problem was eventually traced to a bad solder joint on a resistor inside the amplifier.

This process gives you a much clearer picture of where the failure is occurring.

It also prevents you from making assumptions based only on the fact that the bass disappeared.

When Should You Stop Troubleshooting Yourself?

Basic checks are usually manageable for an experienced DIY installer.

However, some tests require proper tools and technical knowledge.

I recommend professional help if you need to test amplifier output, internal components, or complex factory audio integration.

The same applies if you find burnt wiring, repeated blown fuses, or signs of overheating.

Never replace a fuse with one carrying a higher rating.

Never bypass a protection circuit to keep the system running.

Those shortcuts can create much bigger problems.
